My big shocker was in a lab doing some troubleshooting on a transmitter. I had been making some voltage measurements and the negative lead to the meter popped off the chassis, unnoticed, and fell to the floor. Since I was following the "one hand in pocket" rule, everything seemed cool. Well, it was ok until I touched the chassis...WHAM! 450 volts thru the meter down the negative lead onto the metal chair leg, thence up my arm. Fortunately, the Tripplet sacrificed itself on my behalf!
I guess that was too hazardous, so I went into military test flying! One day I was in the hangar giving some traiing to a new pilot, when we heard a ZAP-Buzz-Bang and some shouting. It seems that someone was trying to pry a 440 volt, 3 Phase power plug out of the wall outlet using a 12 inch screwdriver. Big mistake! It slipped and shorted the prongs of the plug and the screwdriver vaporized! Since the lights went out in the hangar, I ran over and pumped a 150 lb fire extinguisher into the now smoldering receptacle. The smell and black mark on the wall lasted for days! That poor mech is probably still shaking! 73 de Tom/W4OKW -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, January 20, 2009 9:29 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [AMRadio] A special day today Several guys are claiming that I must have used Photoshop to put a photo of a new, clean workbench behind the Galaxy 300. Not so - but I did crop the picture so that the messes to the left and right were no longer shown! -grin- Steve WD8DAS [email protected] http://www.wd8das.net/ ----------------------------------------------------- Radio is your best entertainment value. ----------------------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: John Dilks K2TQN <[email protected]> To: Discussion of AM Radio in the Amateur Service <[email protected]> Sent: Tue, 20 Jan 2009 3:07 am Subject: Re: [AMRadio] A special day today Hi Steve, Nice looking rig, you did a great job. But, tell me, where did you get the photo of the "neat-looking" workbench behind it? It sure doesn't look like any of those tools have been used. :-) (It's not a mess like mine anyway.) 73, John At 10:31 PM 1/19/2009, you wrote: >I think the rig is about ready for the vintage SSB net. > >"After" photo: ______________________________________________________________ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net AMRadio mailing list Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html Post: mailto:[email protected] To unsubscribe, send an email to [email protected] with the word unsubscribe in the message body. ______________________________________________________________ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net AMRadio mailing list Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html Post: mailto:[email protected] To unsubscribe, send an email to [email protected] with the word unsubscribe in the message body.
