I have run up against this.. if it ain't 32-bit in the first place, it
won't work in Win7 64-bit.. older programs like my Uni_Trac interface
software would simply not run on my new rootin scootin Win7 machine, and
I ended up dedicating my old box strictly for running the Uni_Trac...

I find that WIN7 works fine as-is for most programs, but I have a couple of

worked, with limitations, on XP, but work fully again since I have WIN98
selected.
I have WIN7 32-bit, so I don't know if a 64-bit version offers any 32-bit
compatibility variations. Guessing not, but???

This solution seems cheaper than installing Windows 7 Pro.
Will it run WISP and other old programs as effectively as the "Windows XP

You didn't mention what version of Win7. If Pro or up, you can download
a
free XP virtual environment from MS, which works well for old programs,
and
even allows ancient DOS programs to access comm ports.
For non-ham stuff, a good antivirus program, and a backup program such
as
Acronis, Norton, or perhaps Paragon.
