Some info here:

My bet is on the SIREN-16 codec (G.722.1), which is used for the audio
stream in video conversations (new in 7.0), as well as pure voice
conversations. It can also be used for the old video conferences that
are RTP-based if agreed upon (I think it's the client's first priority
if available). Now, there are no open source implementations of this
codec AFAIK, but the alternative route I guess is to use wineloader
and use the DLL bundled with MSN Messenger >= 7.0, dubbed "MSN
Messenger Audio Codec", which gets installed to
"c:\windows\system32\sirenacm.dll".

Someone should also verify that the clips are indeed saved encoded
with the same codec (they probably are, as using lossy compression on
some content twice isn't exactly a good idea).
