why name subject 'proxy' ?? anyways, the nat detection is very important IMHO, not only do we get thousands of reports about "ouhh, it says I'm firewalled", but also, in the case of an FT, if both use amsn, both are not firewalled but both amsns think they are firewalled, they will use the SB, simply because FTs don't work the same as webcams... for webcam you both open a server and the first one to succeed the connection+authentification is the one that stays server, while with FT, the protocol specifies who will be the server, who will be the client, or whether you use the SB, and if you think you're firewalled, you'll never have to open a port.. which means NAT detection is very important! disassembling ink will take years, same for audio clips and 'whatever fancy M$ thing', while nat detection is not that difficult maybe a simple sniff will give us a very simple solution, maybe not... maybe we'll need the hostname of the port checker and for that, we'll just have to disassemble and look for 'nat' in the strings the executable contains.. maybe there's a proprietary hash that needs to be RE-ed and in that case, it will take too long and at that point it's not necessary anymore, we'll have to find another server than MS servers...
but I still think it's worth it to spend some time on this issue...

so we need an external server... initial thought is that MSN servers
probably have the same kind of thing, don't you think.. we could use
that, no ? we'll see.. it will need sniffing, reverse engineering, maybe
even disassembling.. and M$ probably has a proprietary hash algorithm
used to access their stupid natchecker.asp...

........... can't we just stick to the NAT detection we have now and spend
this effort on more important things?.............. I mean, we are short
on developing effort right now, don't start such a big issue for something
that's simply not worth all the pain! I mean, FT and webcam work anyway!

If you feel like disassembling, do it for inks, audio clips, or whatever
fancy M$ thing :P If you feel like coding, look at the 0.95 TODO!
