Is it really that difficult?
I saw in my menu now:
Sort Contacts by Status
that should be:
Sort contacts by status
The keys for 'groups' and for 'contacts' are also used elsewhere, where
the
capital is wanted, here it is not for most languages. That is one thing
that
makes it complicated. Hmmm, and now I think of it again, it may also
cause
problems with case (in the grammatical sense of the word), the word
'contacts' for example may have a different translation here than when
it is
'just on its own' as a menu name.
So: just don't do it, and make a separate key for every text in the UI
(and
use a key multiple times only if exactly the same thing is meant).
The $1, $2...etc are useful for inserting some number, filename, or
whatever
untranslated data, but not to make general keys.
I make it into this (was about to commit it already before writing this
e-mail):
showcontactemail Show contacts with e-mail
showcontactnick Show contacts with nickname
sortgroupsasc Sort groups ascending
sortgroupsdesc Sort groups descending
sortcontactgroup Sort contacts by group
sortcontacthybrid Sort contacts in hybrid mode
sortcontactstatus Sort contacts by status

I have no idea what you're talking about Harry...
Show $1 with $2
can be translated into
$1 $2 abcdefgh
assuming abcdefgh means "show with" in some language.. so the order is
the
way translators want them.. what r u talking about when you say it's
unclear to translators, all translators KNOW that, they've read the docs
before submitting a translation...
and if you're able to explain to me what you really mean and you're
right,
then.. what do you propose ?
