Hi Roelof,

Welcome to the team!

I am also working hard on amsn2, be it quietly at the moment. I am mainly
focussing at the GUI framework. Currently I am working on a design (and some
PoC implementation, which likely will evolve into the final implementation
over time) for the XML2GUI library. This is also going to be implemented in
C.

We'll both be working on a very distinct part of amsn2 (one won't even have
calls to the other), but I'd like things to have a similar style of design,
so amsn2 will eventually have a modular, consistent and clean code.

The most important thing is: GLib. I'd really appreciate it if you do all code
fully object-oriented in the GLib-way. It has been a while since I studied
the Telepathy docs, but IIRC it is also built on GLib, so GLib won't be just
an extra thing to bother you. If you did not ever use GLib, it might take
some time to get used to it, but then you'll like it!

And a rule of thumb: depend on as little libraries as possible. amsn2 should
be light-weight and thus have little dependencies. On the other hand: don't
hesitate to use what you need to make it work. In fact we should just avoid
using different libraries for the same kind of thing (e.g. using different
xml parsers). But I don't expect any troubles with that. Currently my design
depends only on libxml and GLib.

Don't hesitate to ask anything if you'd like to know more about the design
principles I am following. (But actually it is not so much more than
following the GLib docs as precise as possible.)

If all goes well, the first bits of my design will be in the developer wiki in
a couple of weeks, so you and everyone else can shoot at it :-P.

Harry
