I remember you complaining sometimes about the preferences window... it is sometimes a mess :P Actually it does its job well, but I think it's too big (scrollbars in a dialog?)
I was thinking about something like this http://gnomefx.mozdev.org/blue-preferences.png or http://developer.gimp.org/screenshots/gimp-prefs-color-management.png tabs coul be mapped to the categories and frames (fieldsets) could be mapped to subsections; frame and tab procs might be rewritten (and with rewritten I mean doing a tk rename) in this sense, handling the transition transparently.
