Hello KaKaRoTo

I agree to your proposition ;-)
Why they want to sell you their solution, you said us you have another solution, which doesn't cost any money (i'm right ?) and provide a ful satisfaisant service to amsn. Why change? If they want at all the price host your application, this is they win most than the amsn community, else will a people is working to contact community... ?

In more, if you receive money, this is the problem of the legal form of amsn, which maybe must become a society and all the other problem. Else if you can separate the benefit proportionnally to.... the number of revision on the track (which must so improve, but not amsn quality ;-)), the tax must come... so many borring problem. Maybe try to speak to this person with money problem, she only speak of money to you... In addition, amsn isn't a society, which can sign a contract with Cerina compagny? For the amsn community, for financial and legal are borring problems... many people haven't the time on 24hours to do all that they want, will take time for resolve new problems?

But for Cerina compagny, it's an ads argument : we host amsn downloads as many other millions of downloads each days (so they can sell their solutions to compagny which must pay and / or to ads compagny...)

In my opinion this is full win to Cerina's compagny, it's all. No more profit for the amsn community :-)

I have an web hosting project on another side, and at many time we have people like Cerina which try to explian us we much win more if we do that or that... but let us do it will WE want... !
It's easy for other people to say what must be good for you...

What you want, the user who are sure that what is free isn't good can't understand the GNU/GPL licence terms... "do it for pleasure and not for benefice ;-)" !

One more time, I want to say thanks to all the amsn community for the work they provide !

Regards,
Anael

I believe i can just continue saying "no, sorry, bye bye", but anyways, I want to at least give others a chance to give their opinion... I still disagree with it, and it looks like Alvaro also disagrees, so... anyone else wants to share his opinion ? (but well.. I could do with 6K USD in my (personal) account every month.. then leave my job and start working full time on amsn :p)
What I REALLY want to know is a detailed explanation to :
"since we don't care about the revenue, we could give all the revenue to you. what we want is traffic" lol, wtf? why would they say "we don't care about the revenue" ? and all they want is traffic, yeah ok, but isn't traffic supposed to be what gives them their revenue ? so they want traffic to get more revenue? if yes, then why they say they don't care about the revenue, lol, I'm lost, and i'm really curious about this :D Maybe the traffic of people coming to download amsn will help them get other software downloaded and they have some sort of 'sponsored download' or something... so if you download norton antivirus from them, norton gives them some money or whatever...I don't know :)
any other hypothesis ? :D
oh, about editor's pick, i'll answer that we have about a thousand editor's picks and we have a rule not to put themin our website... (btw, i found a 'softpedia pick' in our links side panel.. I just removed it! wtf...)

HI KaKaRo,

Yes, i didn't feel that i was offended by what you said. =)
It is just that we are in two different postions to deal with this issue. Now i know that you have no benefit from the software just like you said you did it for fun. But you have to understand that many of the others don't like you, and they did it for money. that is why i said this was a win-win cooperation. you see you get 50 000 downloads every day, and this can make big money from the revenue share. we have a case which generates 30k downloads and can get more than 6k dollars per month. and this is not an incredibly huge advantage to us only, since we don't care about the revenue, we could give all the revenue to you. what we want is traffic. anyway, I respect your decision. I don't feel any animosity just like i said we are in two different positions.

and we gave aMSN pick award, is it possible to place that award on your website?

Best regards
Cerina

    Hi Cerina,

I can assure you, I have absolutely no worries at all. It's simply
that we do not need any help, just as much as we don't feel like
we need to help another website without a substantial reason to do
so... I don't really care if BrotherSoft is number 1 or number 2
in the world, it's all the same to me, we just have no benefit
from this.. We're not a company, we don't do this for profit or
anything, so we don't have any incentive into making it even more
popular than it already is... we do it for fun, and having to do
some kind of cooperation with a third party, share revenue, where
to put that money, how to declare it to the taxes thingy, and
worse, what to do with that money, that doesn't really sound like
    fun...

I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but we already get over 35
000 unique visitors per day, our latest release had seen almost 3
million downloads for windows, 1.5 million for mac, and over 1
million for linux (not counting those who installed it through
their own distribution's package repository system, which is the
majority of our linux users) and we keep getting 40 to 50 000
downloads every day... so I don't really see what benefit it would
give us to cooperate with us (including the fact that more
downloads equals more of my free time being wasted to help users
with their problems)... From my point of view, having a link to
your website would be an incredibly huge advantage to you and you
only, which is why I feel that there is no need for any kind of
    cooperation.

And to answer your question, yes, we could add mirror download to
you on our website, but it would only confuse the users since
they'd get two choices instead of one click and it downloads...
And there is no reason for us to have mirrors since sourceforge is
already extremely competent and has a huge number of mirrors and
they all seem to work fine (never had any problems with their
mirroring system), so there's no reason to "fix" something that
    isn't broken...

I hope this helped you understand my decision and I hope you feel
no animosity from our part and that you weren't offended by
    anything I said.
But anyways, like I said, you are free to distribute aMSN (for
free) on your website, we have no reason to prevent you from doing
so, and we hope you can get increased revenue by hosting our
application without needing us to do any kind of extra cooperation
(less paperwork is always better, right? :-) )
    Thanks anyways for your proposition!

        HI KaKaRo,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, there are thousands of website,
but we are the NO. 2 download portal in the world. our English
site has 20,000,000 unique visitors per month.
        I have a question:
Since you have your own website, you can't add your own mirror
to sourceforge's system, but you can add a mirror to the
download page on your site, right?
we do value the relationship, and hope we could make money
both side. i believe this is a win-win cooperation. and i
thought google revenue share is an other way of donation to
your software. what are your worries?

Sorry but we are not interested in any kind of joint
effort. We already have our google ads on our website and
we don't plan on promoting any kind of software download
website, there are thousands of website and we have no
            interest in something like this.
We don't specifically have a download list and list of
mirrors, we host our project on SourceForge.net which
already has a huge amount of mirrors that deliver very
fast speeds and we don't need any more mirrors, as much as
we can't add our own custom mirrors to sourceforge's system.
However, you can obviously host aMSN on your website (it's
            free to distribute).
            Thanks,
