Well, the reason is that it doesn't delete the old file, it just appends to
it. This is safer, in case several analogs try and write it at once (besides
it doesn't have to think so hard either). In the docs I recommend deleting
the top of the file every so often, but there is also a Perl script on the
analog helper applications page to remove older entries for each host in the
way you suggest.
