i suppose that is true, though i hazard to guess that most analog users are
looking at the stats, not because they care about load on their server, but
because they are estimating site impact in relation to users. we are using
server stats as a proxy for actually knowing what the users are doing (as
opposed to relevantknowledge or other groups who try to monitor what users
are doing). i think this is valid and really critical for sites (like ours)
that have to fight hard to get budget. with all its weaknesses, i consider
the session number a reasonable (and accessible) indicator of user
attention. i don't need statistics that are 100% accurate as much as
statistics that are available and meaningful...
i'd be interested in hearing stories from other folks about how they apply
their web statistics. i'll be glad to summarize for the list if others are
interested.
