Well, it really depends on what you have at your website and what's the
purpose of your website. For example:
1. Do you advertise your site or parts of it at some other website? Then
you need to look in the referrer report to see how many people came from
there.
2. Does your business have competitors whom you allow to see the
website, but you'd like to know what they're looking at? You can use
HOSTEXCLUDE and HOSTINCLUDE to include only visits by them in a separate
report.
3. Do you want to know what search terms people are using to find your
site? You can get that by appropriate use of referrer args.
4. Are you interested in the general pattern of use and 'health' of you
website? Then use the bar-graph reports, and get familiar with how they
change - like, is your site busier during the workweek or on weekends?
And any unusual activity will stand out - maybe you suddenly get gobs of
hits on one day, and then you'd like to examine the access log in more
detail to try figure out who's doing it and why.
5. Etc!
cheers,
Marj
