It isn't documented anywhere that I know of, but I was reading the Apache
source code and it is fairly obvious from that. It also follows from what
people are actualy using as log formats. Someone has been telling people
to use log formats that use '<' and '>' occasionaly in newsgroups so
someone is aware of the meaning. Once I found out what they meant, the
cases where people are using them started to make sense.
Take a look at Apache's ./src/modules/standard/mod_log_config.c The code
is fairly simple to follow and there aren't that many options. There is
uspport for status code conditionals, '<', and '>' and that's all I saw.

Dr. Seuss books . . . can be read and enjoyed on several levels. For
example, 'One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish' can be deconstructed
as a searing indictment of the narrow-minded binary counting system.
