Thank you all. The thing does indeed resolve to a firm of NW solicitors 
and then a browser resolves it as "Netopia Router Home Page"; it works as 
a URL. Is there something about such a page that would cause a problem on 
DNS lookup?

I.e. - now what? Why does this blasted IP address/the line with the 
address in it crash my whole system?
