my settings:

the first entry in my dnscache, from having run it last night (I forget
whether I had deleted the dnscache then or just let it run):
-1489585216 205.188.209.44 cache-dl08.proxy.aol.com
the last entry:
647325600 63.25.70.187 1cust187.tnt2.columbia.mo.da.uu.net
somewhere in the middle of the file, it breaks between the two - these
follow in immediate succession:
-1485456448 198.247.1.15 bess-proxy.feist.com
647325600 205.188.209.44 cache-dl08.proxy.aol.com
I grepped the transfer.log on the server (also running linux) for
205.188.209.44, no weird dates in any of the occurrences, nor for
198.247.1.15. why are some of the entries in the dnscache (on my hard
drive, not on the server) showing up as negatives? I don't remember
seeing that when I looked at it before...
I hand edited dnscache to remove all the entries with a negative prefix,
then ran it against a fresh log. it still runs against everything, and
the bottom of the file now looks like this:
647325600 63.25.70.187 1cust187.tnt2.columbia.mo.da.uu.net
537649440 205.188.209.44 cache-dl08.proxy.aol.com
but why is the second set of numbers less than the first???
I'm really beginning to wonder if there's something with the internal
clock on my computer, not just the one I can set (which is on time),
since having replaced the battery. I'll have to see what I can check on
that - first time I've had to do it!
apologies for taking up bandwidth, it may turn out to be operator
headspace error ultimately... thanks!
Cathleen
