Thank you Simon

It's beginning to make more sense.

Andre,

the place to start is in the docs folder, where you can click on the file
startpc.html. This should show you the basics.

To edit analog.cfg you will need to use (for example) notepad. When you
click (or double click) on the file and it prompts you to choose a program,
scroll down to Notepad and select "always use this program to open files of
this type" (or similar wording)

You will need to tell analog where your logfile is (ie c:\temp\logfile.log)
and then FROM A COMMAND PROMPT go to the directory where analog is and type
analog and hit enter.

The docs are not bad, but you need to get the thing doing something for them
to make sense. Good luck

Subject: [analog-help] Getting started

Good day and thank you in anticipation for your assistance and patience with
my basic questions.

I have just downloaded analog 4.13 and am using Win 98 SE.
Apparently the download was successful as I can see all the folders and
files you describe. Currently the downloaded folder is sitting on my
desktop.
I have studied the instructions on starting analog under Windows and the
basic commands but I have not succeeded in getting started.

Firstly, I cannot open the analog.cfg file in order to edit the
configuration. When I try to open it a Windows prompt window asks me which
programme I want to use to open the file. I have no idea what to say.

When I double click on the analog.exe a dos menu screen flashes on and off.
When I search for a report.html file, all I find is the sample file in the
analog folder.

Incidentally, prior to trying the actions described above, I downloaded my
website logfile which was generated by Gumball tracker, a free service to
which I have subscribed. The logfile looks in order. I also saved a renamed
copy of the logfile (in .html format) on the desktop -- I suspect that would
make no difference but it's something I tried anyway.

Another thing I tried was filling in the analog form (anglform.html) that I
found in the analog folder. I checked all the on options in the first
section and filled in my website and then I clicked submit, but that also
didn't help.

Regards

Andre Viljoen
