Frank,
Point 1 - are you _sure_ they have no .log extension?... Windows has a nasty
habit of hiding file extensions (which in other circumstances can be
extremely dangerous) the way to find out is doing a "dir" command from a
command prompt in the directory where the logfiles are stored. If it is
hiding them and you want to stop it doing this (IMHO A GOOD THING) go to
Tools (or View if you don't have this menu item) then select Folder Options,
in an explorer window, and on the View tab make sure "Hide file extensions
for known file types" is unchecked. (all from memory, so don't expect exact
wording)
Point 2 - Analog will read any files regardless of extension (if they are in
a readable formt) and you can just use:
LOGFILE "c:\temp\analog\new logs\*"
(or *.* if you prefer a DOS way of specifying files)
the quotes are necessary as you have a space in the path name - I avoid non
alpha-numerics because they so easily screw things up... you could call the
directory new_logs which is a lot safer
Point 3 - Yes, if you specify a wildcard (*) analog will read in all the
files matching. I use this to start fresh reports at year end without
junking the historical data by having .../01*.log as the filename
Hope this helps

Subject: [analog-help]
I am a new user of analog. Amongst other things, I am not sure how to get
the software to read numerous log files.
The problems are:
1. my access logs are called access_log.combined.2001-02-11 etc but with no
.log extension. Is this a problem?
2. I have saved new logs in a folder within the analog folder, i.e one level
below the default logfile.log. should I reference this folder as
c:\temp\analog\new logs\new*.log (presumably not as my logs are not .log
files)
3. I thought that if I put c:\temp\analog\new logs\new* followed by the
correct file extension, it would read multiple files and give me one report.
Is this correct?
Apologies if these are common questions to which I have missed the answers.
