It counts up the data as it reads it in. This is the main memory usage. But
it has to sort it afterwards, which adds a bit extra. In any case, setting
HOSTLOWMEM 3 will cure this, if this is indeed the problem.
Turning debugging on will tell you what it is doing to some extent. Of
course you get more detail by actually running it through a debugger.
