> How did a corrupt line get in the DNS file in the first place? I recently got a corrupt line. The line was 16642767 216.249.138.41 bridget hammons.georgetowncollege.edu It is corrupt because there is a space in the name. I suspect that this is an error on the part of whoever administers DNS, and that spaces are not allowed. QDNS and LOOKUPIP for Windows both return a line with a space in it. DNSTRANS for unix returns it as an unresolved ip number. My opinion is that either the DNS-resolving tools or analog itself should be resilient in the face of such errors. Stephen Turner should dictatorially decide whether the dnsfile is allowed such errors, or whether they must be removed before appearing in the file. To help find corrupt lines in DNS files, I wrote a little Windows program where you drag a text file onto it, and it splits the file into two halves. Then it needn't take more than about 20 trials before you find the erroneous line.
