We use analog 4 to produce reports from our weblogs. And very good it is too. I'd be interested to hear what people reckon to use of weblogs in general - what do they really tell us ? - but i have some specific questions:

It comes up with some interesting figures and i want to make sure that i uderstand what these figures are telling me given that we are quirte a small organisation with quite a fixed idea of our web audience.

In the Requests section there are some figures i find difficult to believe:

For instance i am told this:

8335: 9.91%: 30/Dec/01 23:05: /cgi-bin/dirsrc.pl

Which i take to mean 8335 successful downloads for this page by possibly some by the same people. Is this interpretation true? There then follows many lines such as

20: 9.91%: 30/Dec/01 23:05: /cgi-bin/dirsrc.pl?ID=999

Which i take to mean that 20 users, possibly the same have sent the query ID=999 to this perl program; These 20 users are nothing to do with the 8335 above. True or false?

In the Status code report i am told
3777: 401 Authentication required
I take this to mean that 3777 requests were made, possibly (very probably!) some made by the same people, to areas of our website that require a password. True or false?

Under neath this i am told that 14 people received a 403 code. Does this mean there were 14 attempts to access an area which required a password but where the user had the incorrect username or password or both?

Lastly, in the File report I am told that there were 9553 requests for files of type .pl. Should there be a way of checking this against all the other figures where .pl files are lsted. eg in the requests report?

Thanks for any help here

Regards

Jonny
