The tools you mention can simplify the task of running Analog
for some newcomers. However, they don't have any impact on
your server or its configuration. The server's configuration does
several things. Among them, it determines whether your server
will save a log of visits to your site and which information from
those visits will be saved into the log. The location of the log is
dependent on the server application that you use. Apache and
Microsoft are the most commonly used, but there are others.
Your server application might have help files and a support site.
You will need to know the location of the configuration file on
your system, how to edit it, and how to gracefully restart your
server so that you don't cut off visitors mid-request. You also
need to know what you want to edit in the server configuration.
In this case, you need information about the server log and its
contents. Assuming that you correctly modify the configuration
in your first attempt, your server log will probably contain two
formats (pre-edit and post-edit). Only after that log is rotated
will you get a log that contains only the format that you desired.

While this might seem like a lot of tedious work, it is necessary.
Remember, Analog can only analyze what is in your server log.

I am using Christopher Lewis' VBScripts and ASP page to create reports for
daily, weekly and monthly:
http://www.christopherlewis.com/CodeSamples.htm

It appears to be configured and running correctly.

I am using the Analog.cfg file in conjunction with his scripts.

The path in the .cfg that reads the log files:
C:\WINNT\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1\Purged_ex*.*
(I am using the purged_ex because we are running URLscan)

Also have SEARCHWORD ON & SEARCHQUERY ON in the .cfg file.

I'm not certain what other details to include here. Is there a way for me to
check if the server is logging referrers?

Thanks,
Gregg

Check your server configuration. Are you logging referrers?
If so, where are you logging them? They must be logged in
the same file that Analog reads for Analog to analyze them.

Hi All,

Could anyone explain to me why nothing is showing up in my reports for
SEARCHWORD and SEARCHQUERY? I've checked the errors.txt file and it says:

D:\WWWRoot\Analog\analog.exe Warning R: Turning off empty Search Word Report
D:\WWWRoot\Analog\analog.exe Warning R: Turning off empty Search Query
Report

Actually, it also says:
D:\WWWRoot\Analog\analog.exe Warning R: Turning off empty Referr Report
D:\WWWRoot\Analog\analog.exe Warning R: Turning off empty Referring Report
D:\WWWRoot\Analog\analog.exe Warning R: Turning off empty Failed Referr
Report

Is this accurate that NO ONE has entered a search word/query etc? I suppose
is but it seems strange. Here's a link to the reports interface:
http://cmi.yale.edu/analog/Analog_Reports.asp

Thanks much!
Gregg

PS. This forum has been a huge help!!
