I think I caused some confusion - I misread your earlier post and thought
that the second warning referred to the Request Report.

It isn't important to go by bytes - it's important to go by whatever measure
is most important to you. That's why Analog allows you to specify different
sort orders and floors. The important thing is that if you change one of the
defaults, it may clash with the other settings for that specific report.
Sometimes that doesn't matter, sometimes it does, which is why Analog warns
you about it. You don't have to use the same SORTORDER for different
reports - for instance you might want to sort your Host Report by PAGES
rather than REQUESTS, so that spiders (that don't request images), aren't
hidden by ordinary users that request 10 times as many images as they do
pages (for example).

So to get back to the warnings you got this time. You changed your DIRSORTBY
back to bytes, so the Directory Report warnings went away, because you're
just using the defaults for the sub reports and the Floor.

But you've now changed the default for the Request Report from Requests to
Bytes, so that the sorting of the top level of the Rquest Report no longer
matches the sort order of the arguments, and the FLOOR. You can fix this by
specifying
REQARGSORTBY bytes
REQFLOOR 1b

(You might need REQARGSFLOOR as well at that point).

Again, you might not care, (I usually ignore these warnings if I'm doing a
quick one-off report), but if you're setting up a report to run regularly,
then it makes sense to set the subsortorders and floors if you are changing
the defaults.

No, Stephen Turner is the author - I've made suggestions over the years, and
helped out with some helper apps. I'm glad to hear that Analog was so useful
to you.

There's no such thing as the "right" config - we each have different needs
and requirements, and what works for you mightn't work for someone else.
