How plausible is it to allow clients to choose a report period and
have it run almost instantaneously? I'm running PHP and am seriously

Has anyone done this using PHP? I'm specifically interested in
forking this process with a "please wait" screen. Any insights would
be greatly appreciated.
Well, it depends how much data you have. I haven't heard of anyone
doing this, but it should be possible. There is a CGI interface to
analog which you can look into. You could also consider pre-generating
all the possible time period choices, if there aren't too many of
them, and then you'd be able to switch instantly. You may be able to
use HEADERFILE for the drop-down placement.
