#I# know that, but the people wanting the data don't see it that way.

Look at it this way instead. A user comes on and moves through a number
of pages in sequence, over a quarter-hour, say.
That's one session of activity - perceived as 'logged in' for that time.
Two hours later, they move on to another page.
That's another session.

That's what I need to capture. The data across one day is too wide - it
also gives users who just check the home page and then move on, which
isn't seen as 'using it'.

I don't think I understand what you want it to do, or what you mean by
the "number of users online". No-one is ever logged in to your web
server. They make a fresh connection for each page and graphic. Analog
therefore has no report showing "distinct users in one day". See
docs/webworks.html for more on this.

You can use the FROM and TO commands to restrict your analysis to a
specific time period.
