Am having problems with this both as a User and relating possibility to Development.
Anything I compile to the dimensions of the G1 screen trying CIF, HCIF and QCIF, MP4 video and using the 3GP container will display fine on another platform (eg workstation) but when deployed to the G1 fills the screen top to bottom but has large borders on the left and right (both profile and landscape orientation). This happens on the default video player and any other video players I've d/l from Market so far, so I suspect that this is a characteristic of a base Android video code block. When I've seen this on workstations in the past, I've been able to resolve by finding a different codec which likely calls a different code block properly supporting the intended display but Android is very limited in the codecs and containers it supports. I've heard that the next generation of video support (code named Doughnut?) is supposed to implement many improvements, but I don't know if this issue is one of those, so Am hoping for some enlightenment from someone who has seen this issue and knows whether it's addressable now.
