Well they are using cupcake out of the box mostly with just a Japanese IME. So if cupcake does not allow users to choose when an update is installed, there is very little the carrier can do. I don't necessarily see that as my local carrier's decision. Still...for Google branded handsets to push out updates at their whim with no recourse to the user but to pay the packet charge. yikes. I went for a dev. model which means no copy protected apps I guess.
