Christian,

Actually, there is an easy way to do this without writing your own
Dialog class. Simply create a theme overriding the default Dialog
theme with the backgroundDimAmount style set to 0, like so:

<style name="doNotDim" parent="@android:style/Theme.Dialog">
        <item name="android:backgroundDimAmount">0</item>
</style>

Then apply the theme to your dialog in the constructor. Good luck!
