Hello Shawn, I am in the same situation. I just stared looking into all this about 2 days ago.
I have found the developer's site to be very useful (http:// developer.android.com/guide/appendix/faq/index.html). The Tutorials and Sample Code section has exactly what you're looking for. The samples are easy to follow. One of the most useful things I've found about the samples is that it's not just code. They describe why the code is the way it is so you get a better understanding of what's going on. Best of luck to you.
