You need both skill and the idea. You need skill (and time) to be able to really figure the threading and the pause, stop and go. The idea, which includes the details of how it all fits into android specifically, includes the execution that separates your app from others, is probably more important because "compelling" apps are what are sought after. What could never be done before! A compelling idea can drive your determination as well. Even if one is a moderate Java programmer, you can get your app to work in time.
