>From a user's perspective, DroidStor is a superset of what we are doing. But
that's the point, all these Droidstor screenshots are focused on the
end-user. Our focus is on the developer community. We have a portal site on
http://slideme.org for submission of apps. You can bundle multiple
applications into a provisioning archive and submit them, avoiding the UI
all together. Check out the the jvending site on how this is done (sample
par we use is downloadable) This is how we are provisioning JV.

You also have Apache Maven build tools to get your app to the catalog, as
part of build and release. We have some more build tools and new delivery
systems in the works. You can receive donations, advertise yourself. All of
these things are focused on the small developer. J2ME went the route of
proprietary and closed systems, There is nothing exciting about this, its
just copying what's already been done. We have a real chance to get our own
community started and not get run over. No closed system is going to buy us
this sort of freedom, nobody would trust it.

JV and the SAMce client are all open-source. And if a developer submits good
patches to these projects, I would invite them in as a committer on the
project so they could help define the direction. There are no hooks into
our front-end portal. You can look at the code, submit patches, make your
own distributions of both the catalog and the client. DroidStor or
HelloAndroid could even use JV if they wanted to, or incorporate our client
into their own. Anybody could.

Having said all that, we do have some closed source components. The
front-end portal is closed source but is using JV, which is open-source, for
it's catalog (You can build your own front-end as well). We also have a
full-client in the works which will be more focused on the end-user and will
be closed source. It is however, using the SAMce as its core, so if you
develop something on the open-source client, it will be compatible. Or you
may choose not to use the full-client at all. Or you may even choose to go
with a closed company that tells you how its going to be.
