Even if it's not what the OP meant, now that it is settled that it can not be done in another way than having the popup, it would end and give a purpose to this post if someone answered the remaining questions :
- Is it possible to make an app that becomes the default dialer ? - If so how do you register said app to make the popup appears so that the user can choose it and set it as default ?
