Leigh, I don't think anyone is "against" it.
There happens to be no support for it in Eclipse, the development environment chosen by the Android team.
It just doesn't seem like a show-stopper (see Android Market), and it's certainly an overstatement to say (or imply) that Android is a complete disaster to develop for because there is no Java preprocessing.
