Do you mean a map as in a level design (i.e. position of background/ foreground sprites etc).. or a map as in a fractal-like image representing a landscape? (like a world map)
If it's the latter.. I did once find a really good random map generator, but I can't seem to locate it now. If this is indeed what you're looking for let me know and I will try to dig it up.
