I'd just make an automatic response explain to her that hitting home is like you're minimizing the application, or getting it out of the way. Or ask her where in what other program or place do you hit home and expect the application to close or exit?
Ask here what happens when she hits back on her browser. I agree, developers adding these buttons to their apps are NOT helping. Even in web apps, users are stupid. They don't know what they want so you have to make a standard that people conform to. I wouldn't change my app if it's going against standard practices. It's like when a teacher dumbs down the lessons because of a couple stupid students. In the end you lower the standard for everyone.
