I believe he's talking about 
ContactsContract<http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/ContactsContract.html>in
 the Android SDK. The official Facebook client uses it but there's some 
special handling somewhere making the photos only available in the built-in 
contacts and sms apps. I have no idea why Google or Facebook do not want 
Facebook photos to appear in Google Maps and other apps.
