I'd like a few other things:

6) ability to analyze the sound which the microphone can hear:
capturing to a memory buffer and reading that as it fills would
probably be okay.
7) ability to generate arbitrary tones and other sounds, not just the
DTMF stuff

Think of Electroplankton for the Nintendo DS :)
