I fully support Andrew on his idea. I also would be happy to share my thoughts on the API in order to make it more developer friendly and useful.
For example filtering the intent with the NDEF type is a must in my opinion, only the applications that can read a particular NDEF structure should be listed for launching (not all the applications that registered for tag reading in general). I think together we can come up with a wish list from developer's side, that can help people responsible for NFC API with some ideas.
