There's no "local wifi". You got either "infrastructure" or "ad-hoc"
mode. First one is supported by android but needs access point to be
available and second one alows direct comunication but is not
supported by android. Of course you can have it working but it
requires a) root b) modified wpa_suplicant, but it may mean that your
average joe user is beyond reach. BT still may be a better choice for
some features
