I am researching about the required license fees for a android based (patent protected/non free) audio and video player the is using the audio and video codecs provided by the Android framework and/or optional extra codecs (like wma) provided by device manufacturers.
Are all applicable license fees covered by Google (/device manufacturer) for those codecs and is the developer therefor no longer required to pay license fees to the patent holders or should the developer contact each patent holder of each code about licensing? Do you know of any articles/on-line resources that shed some light on this? Does it matter from which country the developer operates, e.g. from the EU / Netherlands? Does anyone have experience in obtaining any needed licenses? What to expect. Costs? Any information regarding this subject is very much appreciated.
