I did try using the following:
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
<clip android:background="@drawable/button_background" />

but the clip element is not supported as part of a RelativeLayout element.
