I found that this was not related to the 9 patch graphic. Having both:
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
in the RadioGroup was apparently causing it to expand to fill the entire
screen. When I removed the
layout_alignParentBottom from the RadioGroup it works correctly.
