Your suggestion did not work for me (especially since I did not know what
to do inside onConfigurationChanged, nor why I would also need
launchMode="singleTask"
and android:alwaysRetainTaskState="true").

What did work for me was inside onCreate:

    setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_PORTRAIT);

Further clarification welcome,
