Yesterday Apple announced that they are replacing Google's Maps with their
own. Nothing new here, this was suspected for months. What I had been
wondering is, are they also going to update their MapKit API, and it seems
yes. This may put iOS ahead of Android in terms of applications that have
map components to them, depending on the capabilities that get added.

As anyone who has worked with it knows, the Google Map add-on SDK for
Android hasn't been updated in quite a while, while Google Maps, the
application, gets better and better. Google Maps is definitely one of the
best and most unique things about Google Android devices, but Apple just
took a big step toward catching up.

Can anyone speak to whether or not the Google Map add-on SDK will also get
a major upgrade anytime soon? Get constant emails about any of the newest
features in Maps and have to tell people, that the Maps application and the
SDK and library that developers can access (for google approved devices
only), are far more limited.
