This is something that I found in the documentation. Hiding your files from the Media Scanner
Include an empty file named.nomedia in your external files directory (note the dot prefix in the filename). This will prevent Android's media scanner from reading your media files and including them in apps like Gallery or Music. --- I have files I don't want to see in Gallery or Music. So far so good. Seems like I would want to include a .nomedia file. However, what else does this do? Does it mean it will also NOT show up when browsed from a computer. Why do I ask? I've found some files that are most definitely on storage on my Galaxy Nexus. They show up in a file explorer app on the device. Not all of the files show up when I go to My Computer on Windows and Explore "Galaxy Nexus", I do not see the same number of files. I do not know if it is because of a .nomedia file one folder up. If this has nothing with the media scanner, what could be happening that I can't see files on the Galaxy Nexus?
