I have a guess at an explanation for these Cancelled orders: Credit Card security check.
It happens to me almost every time a try to buy for the first time from new merchant over the internet (card holder not present). The order gets rejected by the credit card company with no reason given to the merchant. On phoning my card provider I am told that the transaction was rejected for "security reasons" and if I would like to try again in 10 mins it will now go through.
