I am attempting to develop applications for tablets. I have developed
several apps for phones before but not tablets and I figured it would be
straightforward. I have a cheap chinese tablet called a MID M709 that does
work for USB hosting but it will NOT connect to a PC using USB. What I
mean is that my Windows 7 PC does not detect anything when I connect the
tablet; the tablet uses a somewhat ridiculous "adapter" with two USB and
one Ethernet connector instead of a simple USB cable. I've tried multiple
PCs and have tested my cable with another Android device so I know the
problem exists with the tablet. The adapter appears to work fine with a
keyboard and memory stick.

The tablet is running 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) but it does NOT have the "USB
Utilities" menu so I believe the manufacturer did not include the correct
package, or modified the google framework to delete the USB functionality.
That is really stupid in my opinion. I really want to use ADB like I have
in the past for my development. I just don't know where to look for the
files or package that might be missing. Searching the Google Android
websites didn't help since all I could find specifically dealt with the USB
Hosting functions which are obviously working. I hope it is simply a
missing apk that I can add using a memory stick but nothing has ever been
that easy in Android...

Any information you could provide would be much appreciated. The tablet was
a gift from my daughter and I don't want to hurt her feelings otherwise I
would just go buy a decent one that works as Android intended. I've never
seen an Android device that didn't support USB to PC mass storage; even my
old HTC Dream did that. Besides, the geek in me wants to be able to fix
this.

Thanks,
Michael
