Have you read and followed the FM? http://developer.android.com/tools/devices/emulator.html (It only takes one question mark to indicate an interrogative.) You talk about "desktop" and "go into" but you don't say which OS you're using. I assume by "go into" you mean open the directory in some sort of file explorer window.
