It also seems to me that the thump happens relative to where the ball hits,
at least based upon the side of the phone relative to the wall that was hit
(then again this could be my mind could be playing tricks on me).

Glad you noticed that no permission for this feature is asked for.

So ... anyone have any idea how this is done?
