I have very nearly finished porting the java.awt lib to android. I have skipped all the swing functionality as I cannot see us need ing it along with some fairly large chunks of the text handling. Graphic manipulation and IO etc should all still work.
If you are ever given the choice between building your own awt lib and smacking your face into a wall. Choose the wall.
