They didn't wake up 2 weeks ago and say "hey, I know, lets call the hero the
g2!"

That device (and that name, or a variant thereof) has been around since at
least the release of the g1, if not earlier. The fact that everyone decided
every android phone was the g-something is irrelevant. (Hey, I have android
on an old kaiser - is it the g0?)

They tried multiple names for the touch, but you'll note that none of them
was anything like 'g2'...
