Hi, 'Gone in 60 Seconds' ( or less... )
I had the just over 100 judges, of which only 5 managed to complete the primary activity of my app, which could take about 1 ~ 2 minutes to complete. I did not have a compulsory sign up screen, as I thought nobody would bother. Where I went wrong (I think) was not correctly anticipating that ADC2 app's would be only served one at a time and then immediately removed after judging was completed. I though you might be able to leave (some of ) the ADC2 apps on the phone for a while before the end of Round 1, giving the opportunity to test and judge apps you might have liked over an extended period and not just the 1 or 2 minutes most people seemed to do. What I learned from this contest was that people had to get the context of the app immediately, in less than 60 seconds or they were gone. I had one (critical) screen where you have to scroll to the bottom of a short dialog and press 'Publish' but I think I confused most people with a few 'Test' buttons in the same dialog (before scrolling). I had a youtube video demo and a website with full help linked from within the app. The five people who did complete the primary activity, only happened (coincidently?) after I added a note at the top of the website saying scroll down and press the 'Publish' button (!) but that was after about 5 days into the judging period, when I think I worked out what was wrong. I think around 100 ratings per app is ok, but disappointed with the minute or so in which any rating seemed to be was decided. Comments back to the developer would have been helpful as well. I think the Judging app would have been measuring the time spent between app judging downloads, these figures would be interesting.
